Samuel Gawith Silky Dark 25g
Samuel Gawith Silky Dark is a sophisticated and complex blend of rich dark Rustica tobaccos that is a finely ground black and moist snuff that packs quite a robust punch, resembling an iron fist in a velvet glove. The initial nose feel is quite piquant but very tolerable and well worth the outcome. This mixture reveals a very organic aroma reminiscent of grassy meadows, deep wood trails with a sweet crème brulée ending. This particular snuff will help you define true tobacco taste. Should be essayed at least once in a lifetime.
When I first tried this snuff, I was uncertain about how much I liked it. However, it has grown on me. My favourite snuffs (at present) are Gawiths Apricot and Gawiths Celtic Talisman. The Apricot packs a fair punch along with the delicate Apricot flavour, with the Celtic Talisman being slightly more mellow on the nose. The silky dark is a different experience. Woody notes with a smoked aftertaste. Smooth and easy on the nose. I enjoy this snuff towards the end of the day, when sat reading a good book, or in quiet contemplative moments. Another quality snuff from Samuel Gawith and Mr Snuff.

I recall thinking the 1st time I tried the Arabica blend that it was great but might be greater without the coffee bean (I do love coffee). And here it is. Powerful, yet smooth, uncomplicated and indeed silky. There's nothing else like it that I'm aware. I do get "deep wood trails with a sweet crème brulée ending" but not a meadow. More like a cigar, or over-roasted coffee. It has a very deep, dark, earthy scent. The grind is medium, it's easy to take and has the most interesting ending not unlike SWS's Pontefract Priory (possibly my alltime fav), but more straightforward.
It has coarse structure that's ok for sniff and has good feeling on nose.
Scent's intence is moderate, which is good(doesn't annoying), not bothers through time. The smell is earthy, smoky, faint odor of wet trees almost as decaying wood in pleasant way. It calms down the mood and good in outdoors, and indoor, at home especially late evening.
Nicotine level is medium to strong, satisfying.
One of my favorite. If I will not see near time an alternative, than will purchase a bulk and it will be my regular snuff.
The first scotch I tried was a american rappee it was light in color and as dry as the dust in my grand-moms attic. Fortunately this is just the opposite the plain tobacco is very dark and moist with great whole sum earthiness; no ammonia smell detected as with freshly fermented tobaccos. So I am thinking this has some aging behind it.
The grind is fine and the moisture is high easy to use and a great product for the masses to enjoy. Weather your a beginner or and old timers,This is good quality snuff.I may need to get another just to cellar.
